Nocturify Location & GPS Disclosure
Version: 1.0
Effective:
Version: 1.0 Last updated: 8 August 2026
This Location & GPS Disclosure explains how Nocturify uses device location and GPS information.
It should be read together with the Nocturify Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
1. Why Nocturify uses location
Nocturify may use Your device location for specific nightlife-discovery and integrity features.
Depending on the feature You use and the permission You grant, location may help Nocturify:
- identify the nearest supported city;
- show venues near You;
- calculate distance to venues;
- improve location-based venue discovery;
- verify that a community report is being submitted near the relevant venue.
Nocturify does not require location for every feature.
2. Foreground location only
Nocturify currently uses foreground location access.
This means location is intended to be accessed when You are actively using a feature that requires it.
Nocturify does not intentionally track Your location continuously in the background.
Nocturify is not designed to create a continuous history of Your movements.
3. Location permission
Your device operating system may ask You to grant location permission.
You may choose whether to grant that permission.
If You deny location access:
- some location-based features may be unavailable;
- distance information may be unavailable or less accurate;
- automatic supported-city detection may not work;
- GPS-verified community reporting may not be available;
- other non-location-dependent parts of Nocturify may continue to work.
You can change location permission later through Your device settings.
4. Location for city and venue discovery
When location permission is available, Nocturify may use Your current location to:
- determine which supported city is nearest;
- center or recenter the map;
- show relevant nearby venues;
- calculate approximate distance to venues.
This location use is intended to improve discovery and navigation inside Nocturify.
It does not mean that a venue receives Your precise location.
5. GPS verification for community reports
Nocturify uses GPS verification to improve the reliability of community reports.
When You submit a live venue report, Nocturify may temporarily use:
- Your current device coordinates;
- location accuracy information;
- the selected venue’s coordinates;
- the time of the report request;
to determine whether the report qualifies for GPS verification.
The purpose is to reduce remote, fabricated or manipulated reporting.
6. Proximity and accuracy requirements
A report may be accepted as GPS-verified only when it satisfies Nocturify’s technical requirements.
These requirements may include:
- sufficient location accuracy;
- proximity to the selected venue;
- freshness of the location reading;
- report timing requirements;
- account and reporting limits.
The exact technical thresholds may be adjusted as Nocturify improves its integrity controls.
Meeting the GPS requirement does not guarantee that every report is truthful. It only helps establish that the device was sufficiently close to the venue at the relevant time.
7. What is stored after GPS verification
The current Nocturify report-submission process uses Your coordinates to verify proximity to the venue.
The current process records whether the report passed GPS verification.
It does not intentionally store the raw submitted GPS coordinates in the resulting current report record.
This means Nocturify’s current community-report system is not designed to store a precise historical trail of where You were when submitting each report.
Nocturify may retain technical or security information where lawfully necessary to prevent abuse, investigate incidents, protect the service or comply with law, but we aim to minimize location information retained for these purposes.
8. No location history for venues
Venues and venue partners do not receive Your precise historical location through Nocturify venue analytics.
A venue may receive aggregated statistics or community trends as described in the Privacy Policy, but such analytics are intended to describe groups and venue activity rather than reveal an individual’s location history.
A commercial relationship with Nocturify does not provide a venue with access to Your precise GPS data.
9. Location and personalized recommendations
Where permitted, location may be used as one input for recommendations or venue discovery.
For example, Nocturify may consider:
- the supported city;
- approximate distance to venues;
- venue availability;
- events;
- Your preferences;
- verified activity;
- other approved product signals.
Location does not authorize Nocturify or AI systems to invent facts about You or a venue.
10. Location and AI
Nocturify’s current AI architecture is designed to avoid sending raw GPS coordinates to an external AI provider merely to generate explanations or recommendations.
At the date of this Disclosure, external AI-provider generation is disabled in the production environment.
If future AI processing materially changes how location-related information is handled, the Privacy Policy, AI Transparency notice and this Disclosure will be updated where required before that processing is introduced.
11. Preventing location manipulation
You must not attempt to bypass or manipulate Nocturify’s location-verification systems.
This includes:
- GPS spoofing;
- falsifying location coordinates;
- manipulating device location;
- using technical tools to appear near a venue when You are not;
- submitting another person’s verified activity as Your own;
- otherwise interfering with report-integrity controls.
Such activity may result in reports being rejected, NightMiles being reversed, features being restricted or account action being taken under the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
12. Location accuracy and limitations
GPS and device-location services are not perfectly accurate.
Accuracy may be affected by factors such as:
- buildings;
- indoor environments;
- device hardware;
- network conditions;
- operating-system settings;
- temporary GPS limitations.
Nocturify may reject or delay a GPS-verified action where the location reading does not meet required accuracy or freshness standards.
This does not necessarily mean that You are not physically present at the venue.
13. Emergency and safety limitations
Nocturify’s location features are designed for nightlife discovery and report verification.
They are not emergency-location, personal-safety or tracking services.
Do not rely on Nocturify to:
- locate another person;
- contact emergency services;
- share Your position during an emergency;
- monitor someone else’s safety;
- provide real-time safety tracking.
In an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency services or use dedicated safety functionality available through Your device or local services.
14. Changing or withdrawing permission
You can withdraw or change location permission through Your device settings.
After permission is withdrawn:
- Nocturify should no longer receive new device-location information through permissions that are no longer granted;
- location-dependent features may stop working or become less accurate;
- information already lawfully processed before withdrawal may remain where retention is permitted or required.
Withdrawing device permission does not invalidate processing that lawfully occurred before the permission was withdrawn.
15. Future location features
Nocturify may introduce new location-related functionality in the future.
We will not treat this Disclosure as permission for materially different location processing that has not been explained to You.
If Nocturify introduces features involving materially different collection, persistence, background access or sharing of location information, we will update the relevant disclosures and permission flows before introducing that processing where required.
